SEQ has experienced hight and sustained population growth since the 1980's, growing at an average of 55,300 persones eash year between 1986 and 2004. The estimatged resident population of the region in 2004 was 2,666.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council approved a Development Permit for a major shopping complex in Withcott as its ordinary meeting recently. The development will be linked to and incorporate the existing Withcott Central Shopping Complex and fuel station and will incorporate a national chain supermarket with the addition of specialty shops.
